ARTICLE I

NAME  AND  OBJECTIVES

 

            Section 1.    Name.    The name of the organization is the Narimasu High School Alumni Association (hereafter designated as “the Association”).

 

            Section 2.    Objectives.

 

            a.    The objective of the Association is to promote the interests of and establish mutually beneficial relations among the students who attended and the faculty who taught at Narimasu High School, Tokyo, Japan, from its inception in 1948 until its dissolution in 1973.

 

            b.    The Association is strictly non-partisan and non-sectarian.  The Association may not support candidates for public office or participate in movements inconsistent with its common objectives.

 

            c.    The Association may join or collaborate with other alumni associations or organizations whose purpose is to foster the welfare and interests of students and faculty associated with American schools abroad since 1945, whether military, foreign service, or corporate.  The Association may not participate in activities that would impair the separate and distinct identity of the Association.

 

 

ARTICLE II

 

QUALIFICATIONS OF MEMBERS

 

            Section 1.     Eligibility.    Any person who was a student at or who taught at Narimasu High School, Tokyo, Japan, from 1948 to 1973 is eligible for membership in the Association.

 

            Section  2.    Admission.    An eligible person becomes a member of the Association by paying to the Treasurer annually the dues set by the Executive Board.  Members in good standing have the right to vote on all issues before the Association, to receive all publications of the Association, and to be notified of all general meetings, gatherings, or reunions held under the auspices of the Association.

 

            Section 3.    Membership Year.    Membership is annual from January 1 to December 31 of each year.  

ARTICLE III

 

OFFICERS

 

            The management of this Association is vested in an Executive Board consisting of nine (9) officers:  The President, the Vice President, the Secretary, the Treasurer, two Directors from the class years 1948-60 and 1961-73, the Membership Chairperson, the Reunion Chairperson, and the Editor of the Association’s newsletter.  All officers shall be members of the Association.

 

 

ARTICLE IV

 

MEETINGS

 

            Meetings of the Association shall take place at the biennial alumni reunions sponsored by the Reunion Committee with the approval of the Executive Board.  They will be held in even-numbered years beginning in 2004.  The geographical dispersion of the Association’s officers and members precludes more regular meetings.  In the interim, members may bring issues pertinent to the Association before the Executive Board by telephone, U.S. mail, e-mail, fax, or the Internet.  Questions that require a decision of the Association at large shall be distributed in writing to all members by the editor of the Association’s newsletter together with a ballot for the determination of majority sentiment.

 

 

ARTICLE V

 

ADOPTION AND AMENDMENTS

 

            This Constitution and its By-Laws will be distributed to the membership with an accompanying ballot.  The adoption of the Constitution and its By-Laws requires a three-quarters affirmative vote of the members who cast a ballot.  The Constitution and its By-Laws shall be effective immediately upon ratification.  It may be amended in accordance with procedures contained in the By-Laws.
