CLASS OF 1965 REUNION
On Thursday, June 3, the Narimasu High School Class of 1965 started its celebration with a meet and greet at the Hawaiian Prince Hotel where most of us were staying. From there it was off to the Hula Girl Café where Lei’s and goodie bags were passed out and everyone received photo albums to fill with new memories. Classmates’ albums included yearbook pictures. Having exclusive use of Café Hula Girl for the evening and it was a perfect site for our first gathering. Enabled us to move to move about and reminisce with classmates about living in Japan and Narimasu. Ellen and Lynnette were the entertainment as they showed us two different hula dances and then attempted to teach us how to hula. On Friday, June 4, some of us toured the Arizona Memorial in Pearl Harbor . While Stan Yamamoto arranged a golf outing for others. Friday evening, the Class of 1965 gathered for dinner in the park known as “The Path to the Sea,” a beautiful 76-acre park located along the south shore just west of Waikiki Beach. Dinner was a traditional Hawaiian Luau and included poi, poke, haupia and as an extra treat, yakitori! After sundown, not one, but two gorgeous firework displays from hotels located on Waikiki Beach lit up the sky. Then we returned to the hotel to watch “BRATS: Our Journey Home” On Saturday the 5th of June, we had a sightseeing tour and history lesson in one package. With the aid of a docent we toured the Iolani Palace and learned the history of the palace. The tour also included a visit to the Coronation Pavilion and Archives and the Judiciary History Center with the statue of King Kamehameha, who unified the Hawaiian Islands and concluded with a visit to the State Capital. Next, we had lunch in Chinatown at Little Village Noodle House ended the morning activities. Saturday night the evening started with everyone getting lei-ed, white orchids with blue ribbons for the classmates and purple orchids for the others. After cocktails and picture-taking in our private room it was off to dinner, a magnificent seafood buffet buffet with different Asian Pacific fusion stations. A night of door prizes for everyone and dancing to the oldies followed. But, before the last sayonaras and alohas ending the reunion were offered, Karen Lipsey Ioffredo volunteered to chair a 50th reunion of the Class of ‘65 in D.C. In fact, she has already sent out an email about preferences! The Class of ’65 is still going strong!
